When the heart breaks :-(

Losing a loved one is never easy - no creature is too small to mourn...

Our youngest little silkie girl, Pichounette, passed away this morning at barely five months of age, after a life-long battle with an enlarged crop - a defect she inherited from her mom.

She never developed properly and fit in the palm of my hand, her massive crop comprising most of her body weight. Poor little angel, she fought until the very end and I cannot help but shed hot tears as I see her last moments nestled in the tall green grasses, a tiny ball of fluff in the sun wasting away - she should have had a long and vibrant life but never had the chance.

I held her cold little body in my hands as she gasped her last weak breaths this morning. I never want to live through that again.

Mommy loves you, little angel... you will be missed very much...

RIP beautiful one.

am so sorry. I'm glad we aren't the only ones who have shed tears over such a sad situation. I lost three silkies last year and it was a heart break. I totally understand those tears. Bless her heart.

I am so sorry about your little hen. You know we just lost our guinea pig this week, so I know how much you are hurting. At least you know she's not suffering anymore...

Oh Poo Anick. Not another one, I'm so sorry. I have a hen with an enlarged crop. She's getting awfully thin. It's been two months. She's still acting fine, but I worry so about her. We get so attached to these little things don't we. Hoping tomorrow is a better day.

A big thank you to all for your kind comments... it takes a special heart to know how special a pet chicken can be and how their death takes a toll. She is at peace now my little one, no more pain... I'm just mad that she never had a chance from the start, you know? :-(
