hangin' out on the front porch

I didn't know the video would turn out so narrow, LOL!

Next time I'll film in landscape mode and not in portrait mode.

But still, it gives you an idea of the dirty faces
we have to live with on muddy days like these!

Gotta love 'em :-)

Could you please email me the info that finally worked for the red mite infestation?
Thank you

Cody,

We ended up condemning the infested coop, there were too many mites to kill. We will tear it down next spring and rebuild. It was a decrepit 75 year old farm building so no regrets there.

We had two other coops to use. I stripped them down to bare insides (unscrew and un-nail everything possible), spray every square inch from floor to ceiling with a permethrin mixture, and then rebuilt the sleeping planks and nesting boxes with melamine and metal - no wood.

We found some mites between the sleeping planks and the metal brackets holding them, so they get everywhere.

we also treated the flocks with Eprinex, which kills the mites after they've fed so it breaks the breeding cycle. This treatment has to be repeated every month.

so far the two coops are clean, the mites have not returned (knock on wood).

what a wake-up call that was.
